LAST NIGHT: Fort Wayne lost to Lansing, 7-4.

ALLEN’S HITTING STREAK: With a double on Monday, catcher Austin Allen stretched the longest active hitting streak in the Midwest League to 22 games. He’s now 1 off the Fort Wayne franchise record of 23 — set by Sean Burroughs in 1999. During the stretch that goes back to July 10, Allen is 34-for-87 (.391) with 2 doubles, 2 homers and 16 RBIs. For the year, Allen’s .321 average is the fifth highest in the league.

MORE ON BURROUGHS: Sean Burroughs was drafted out of high school by the Padres with the 9th overall pick in the 1998 Draft. In ’99, at the age of 18, he had not only a franchise-record 23-game hitting streak but also set records with a 56-game on-base streak and .359 average. Burroughs, whose dad, Jeff, won the 1974 AL MVP with the Rangers, went on to make his big league debut for San Diego in 2002. Through 2012, he spent parts of 7 seasons in the majors with the Pads, Rays, Diamondbacks, and Twins. Burroughs, now 35, is still currently playing for the Bridgeport Bluefish in the independent Atlantic League.

RUDDY’S RESURGENCE: Over the last month-plus, shortstop Ruddy Giron has looked like the player who Baseball America ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the MWL last year. Since July 3, Giron is slashing .303/.366/.412 with 10 doubles, a homer, and 8 RBIs.

SELESKY’S SIZZLING START: Corner infielder/outfielder Tyler Selesky, who went undrafted in June, is tied for the fifth most hits in the MWL (19) since he made his TinCaps debut on July 25.Selesky has reached safely in each of his first 12 games, registering at least one hit in 11 of them.

GARCIA GETS GOING: Right fielder Alan Garcia is 8-for-18 (.444) over the last 4 games with a double and 2 RBIs. It’s raised the 19-year-old’s season batting average by 40 points.

IN CONTROL: TinCaps pitchers have issued the fewest walks per 9 innings in the league this season — just 286 in 996.1 IP (2.6 / 9 IP). Fort Wayne pitchers have also hit the fewest batters in the MWL (30).
