The Allen County SPCA today announced that it has teamed up with NBC33 to host NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations’ Clear the Shelters second annual nationwide pet adoption drive. The Allen County SPCA will offer the public no-cost cat and kitten adoptions on Saturday, July 23, as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative that seeks to find new homes for homeless pets.
"While this is the second year for the event nationally, this is the first time Fort Wayne’s adoptable animals are being represented, and we’re very excited about the possibility of finding homes for all our adoptable cats and kittens," said Jessica Henry, Allen County SPCA Executive Director. "And to give more people a chance to adopt, we’re extending our adoption hours from 10 a.m. until 6p.m."
Adopters will still need to complete adoption paperwork, and city residents are required to purchase a pet license. Same-day adoptions will take place, so potential adopters should bring a cat carrier, as proper pet carriers are required to adopt.
This year’s Clear the Shelters event comes after last year’s highly successful inaugural effort, which resulted in nearly 20,000 pets finding new homes through an unprecedented partnership between the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations and hundreds of animal shelters located all across the country and in Puerto Rico. The nationwide day of action literally emptied dozens of animal shelters across the country and inspired local communities to take action and open their homes to animals in need.
