Fort Wayne TinCaps (35-30) vs. West Michigan Whitecaps (37-25)

RHP Jake Nix (0-3, 3.92) vs. RHP Beau Burrows (5-3, 1.99)

Wednesday, June 15 — Parkview Field — First Pitch 7:05 p.m. — Game 66

LAST NIGHT: Fort Wayne fell, 7-4, to West Michigan. The TinCaps fell behind 4-0 before coming to bat before rallying to make it as close as 6-4. Fort Wayne had the tying runs on base with no outs in the home seventh but came away empty.

MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT: The TinCaps will be hosting more than 1,500 military members—both active duty and veterans—and their families at tonight’s game. Complimentary tickets were made possible thanks to donations from OmniSource and Steel Dynamics. Also, through the Northeast Indiana Military Assistance Network, military-support organizations will have kiosks here.

SPECIAL JERSEYS: The TinCaps’ jerseys for tonight are modeled after the flight suits worn by members of the 122nd Fighter Wing, the Indiana Air National Guard base located in Fort Wayne. The team will wear these jerseys again on the Fourth of July. That week the jerseys will be auctioned off online with all proceeds benefitting Honor Flight Northeast Indiana.

GETTING ON BASE: On Tuesday, second baseman Kodie Tidwell, shortstop Peter Van Gansen, first baseman Ty France, catcher A.J. Kennedy, and utility man Nick Vilter visited the 122nd Fighter Wing, meeting with servicemen and women and touring the facility.

THE GREAT GETTYS: Michael Gettys is riding a 9-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in 12 of his last 13 games. The MWL All-Star is 21-for-51 in June (.412 average) with 2 doubles, a triple, a homer, and 5 RBIs.

TIDWELL TURNS UP: Kodie Tidwell is on a 25-game on-base streak going back to May 13. It’s the longest active streak in the MWL and the fourth longest in the league this year. He’s hit safely in 23 of those games, including 10 straight. Tidwell has DH-ed, played second base, third, shortstop, and left field during the streak.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: With 5 games left in the half, the TinCaps trail first-place South Bend by 4.5 and West Michigan and Lake County, who are tied for the wild card, by 3.5.
