LAST NIGHT: In their longest game of the season (by time and innings), the TinCaps fell to Dayton, 6-5, in 12 innings Saturday night. The TinCaps tied the game in the 5th (on a Ty France two-run HR), in the 7th (on a Michael Gettys home run), in the 9th (on a Gettys RBI triple) and took their first lead in the 11th (on a Gettys RBI single) — only to lose on Tanner Rahier’s walk-off single in the 12th.

LOCAL DRAFT TIES: The third and final day of the MLB Draft on Saturday saw 4 players with Fort Wayne connections selected. In the 22nd round, the Padres drafted RHP Evan Miller out of IPFW. Meanwhile, Homestead HS alum Andre Jernigan (SS, Xavier) was taken by the Twins in the 14th round. The Dodgers took Zack McKinstry (SS, Central Michigan), a North Side HS alum, in the 33rd round. Colin Brockhouse (RHP, Ball State) out of Northrop HS went to the Pirates in the 37th round.

GREAT GETTYS: After 3 hits on Saturday, Michael Gettys raised his batting average to a season high .316. He’s hitting .410 through 9 games in June.

PLAYOFF PUSH: The top 4 teams in the Eastern Division all lost Saturday night. With 8 games remaining in the first half, the TinCaps are still 3.5 games behind first-place South Bend and 2.5 games behind second-place West Michigan for the wild card spot.

TIDWELL TURNS UP: Kodie Tidwell is on an 22-game on-base streak going back to May 13. It’s the longest such streak of the season for a TinCap and the longest active streak in the Midwest League. He’s hit safely in 20 of those games. Over this time, Tidwell has slashed .287/.361/.460 with 12 runs, 8 RBIs, 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs.
