LAST NIGHT: For the sixth time this season, the TinCaps won when trailing after eight innings, as they defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 4-3, on Thursday night in Kentucky to complete the three-game sweep. Brad Zunica smacked a solo home run in the second inning and pushed the TinCaps ahead with a two-run single in the ninth inning.

HEATING UP: The TinCaps have won a season-high 5 in a row, 8 of 9, and 11 of their last 14. At 34-26, Fort Wayne is a season-best 8 games above .500 for the first time this year.

ROSTER MOVE: Today the Padres promoted right-handed starting pitcher Enyel De Los Santos to the Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm. De Los Santos, 20, was named an MWL All-Star on Tuesday. He leaves with the fifth lowest batting average against in the league (.199). He currently leads the team in innings pitched (52.2) and strikeouts (45), as well as WHIP among starters (0.99). Meanwhile, righty reliever Lou Distasio has returned to the TinCaps. Distasio has pitched at every level of the Padres’ organization so far this season, most recently with the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas. In 6 outings with Fort Wayne in April, he posted a 5.68 ERA.

PLAYOFF PUSH: With 10 games left in the first half, the TinCaps are 2.0 games behind second-place Lake County in the Eastern Division. Lake County hosts Great Lakes (24-34) this weekend.

DRAFT DAYS: The Padres made 5 selections on the opening night of the draft on Thursday. San Diego selected LHP Cal Quantrill (Stanford) with the eighth overall pick. The Padres also tabbed SS Hudson Sanchez (Carroll HS, Texas) at 24, LHP Eric Lauer (Kent State) at 25, OF Buddy Reed (Florida) at 48, and RHP Reggie Lawson (Victor Valley HS, California). The Draft features Rounds 3-10 today, with Rounds 11-40 coming on Saturday.

TIDWELL TURNS UP: Kodie Tidwell is on an 20-game on-base streak going back to May 13. It’s the longest such streak of the season for a TinCap and the second-longest active streak in the Midwest League. He’s hit safely in 18 of those games. Over this time, Tidwell has slashed .291/.356/.468 with 11 runs, 8 RBIs, 6 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs. He’s walked 7 times, been hit by a pitch, and stolen 5 bases, as he’s raised his batting average 59 points and his on-base percentage 46 points to .237 and .314, respectively.
