National Adoption Weekend

If you’ve been thinking of adopting a new four-legged family member, consider doing so during the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15 at PetSmart at 10260 Maysville Road in the Chapel Ridge Shopping Center in northeast Fort Wayne. A grant from PetSmart Charities will fund a large tent, under which adoptable animals from three area organizations will be available: the Allen County SPCA, the Steuben County Humane Society and Perfect Paws Pet Rescue.

These organizations will be offering same-day adoptions for families who are fully prepared to add a pet to their homes. "We encourage people to come out to PetSmart this weekend, meet with the dogs and cats, and take their animal home the same day," said Allen County SPCA executive director, Jessica Henry. In addition to adult pets, several puppies and kittens will be available for adoption also. All animals will be adopted on a first come, first served basis, but priority will be given to pre-approved adopters interested in adopting from the Allen County SPCA. Adoption applications can be found on the shelters’ websites. "We are grateful to PetSmart Charities for their commitment to pet adoption. They have been a wonderful partner for us, and we appreciate the opportunity to participate in this big, national effort to save the lives of shelter pets."

Hours are noon until 4 p.m. each day.

Pet adoptions will benefit each participating shelter, which will receive $35 in adoption-reward grants from PetSmart Charities for every pet they adopt in stores during this event.
