Shoot For A Cure Tournament (April 29-May 1)

The Plex, a multiple facility sports megaplex, welcomes the Fort Wayne community to the sixth annual Shoot for a Cure Tournament, taking place April 29 – May 1, 2016. This tournament combines friendly competition with fundraising for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. The Plex has also partnered with Puma to turn this tournament into a PLAY IT PINK event.

As a fundraising event, the tournament will host a number of opportunities for players, families, and guests to help fundraise. Each team competing in the tournament will also compete alongside one another in raising funds. As a PLAY IT PINK event, the tournament will encourage players and guests alike to wear pink clothing to show solidarity for the event’s cause and provides teams with the option to purchase pink tournament jerseys and socks at The Plex’s own Summit City Soccer Shop, where 100% of proceeds go directly to the foundation.

A silent auction will be held inside the tournament headquarters tent and will feature items from Vera Bradley and other local businesses. There will also be a donation box for guests to contribute what they can to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.

The Plex is a staple of the Fort Wayne sports community. With two indoor locations, and many outdoors fields—including a partnership with Hefner fields—many of Fort Wayne’s active sports crowd gathers together at The Plex for fun and safe sports play year-round. The Plex focuses on creating a safe environment that promotes individual growth, and part of The Plex’s mission is to teach developing athletes how they can make an impact with the sports they play. The Shoot for a Cure Tournament shows our youth soccer players that they can make a difference by playing the sports they love.

Last year, the tournament raised over $18,000 dollars for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, and it aims to exceed that this year. The Foundation has contributed over $25.7 million dollars to breast cancer research, and The Plex is honored to be contributing to such a great, successful cause.

The Shoot for a Cure Tournament is fun for players and spectators of all ages. Whether you’re supporting a competing player or team, are an avid sports fan, or just want to aid in this incredible cause, The Plex welcomes everyone to Hefner Fields for a weekend of fun competition and fundraising!
