Animal Care Teens A.C.T. For Animals

Student members of the Animal Care Teen (ACT) program at Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC) will gather together tomorrow, Saturday, April 16 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. for a special Stuff the Whisker Wag’n service event. Their goal is to collect much needed canned food for homeless shelter pets. Last year, Animal Care & Control was responsible for the care of 4,561 dogs and puppies and 6,097 cats and kittens, many of which needed special care prior to becoming adoptable.

Citizens are asked to drop off canned food suitable for cats, kittens, puppies and dogs to help the shelter prepare for spring litters and homeless strays. Dry food is not needed at this time. The Whisker Wag’n will be parked in the Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control parking lot located at 3020 Hillegas Road – our adoption lobby will also be open for those interested in adding a new pet to their home. This year, we have added a second collection location at 6101 Stellhorn Road in front of the Pet Supplies Plus Store – home of the new Whisker Village cat adoption center – an offsite adoption center for FWACC. Rain or shine, teens will eagerly await donations of canned food.

The Animal Care Teen program offers youth ages 13-17 an opportunity to learn about animal related careers, develop leadership skills, and to ACT for animals through service opportunities to benefit homeless animals in our community.
