Sculpture By Esteemed Area Artist Donated To The Rescue Mission

“Let the Little Children Come to Me”, a bronze sculpture created by esteemed local artist Hector Garcia will be unveiled and dedicated on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Charis House (431 Fairmount Place, Fort Wayne, IN 46808), a ministry of The Rescue Mission. The media is invited to attend.

Garcia committed to creation of the piece at last year’s Charis House Gala, which helps raise needed funds to support the homeless women and children residing in the shelter. Specifically, the piece will honor the Chara 10:14 Childcare Ministry.

The Chara 10:14 Childcare Ministry enables women to participate in life-changing programs at The Rescue Mission, something they’re unable to do without consistent childcare. The ministry is able to provide quality childcare for up to 15 children at a time.

“We are beyond honored that Mr. Garcia has graciously offered to bless our children’s ministry with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece,” says the Mission’s Executive Vice President of Operations, Richard Cummins.

Hector Garcia is an IPFW associate professor emeritus of fine arts and taught sculpture and figure drawing from 1976 to 1997. He first taught with the Fort Wayne Art Institute, followed by IPFW after the merger with Indiana University. A nationally and internationally recognized sculptor, Garcia received a B.F.A. in sculpture from The John Herron Institute in Indianapolis and an M.F.A. from Indiana University. He also completed special scholarship work at the Instituto Allende in Mexico.

Garcia has completed hundreds of sculptures and commissioned works during his prolific career. He has produced medals and medallions for award ceremonies in Helsinki, Finland; Takaoka, Japan; Gera, Germany; Plosk, Poland; and London, England.

Collections of his work are owned by notable individuals throughout the country including Ted Turner, Ray Bradbury, Herbie Hancock, Chris Schenkel, Bob Knight, Gene Keady, Richard Lugar, and Lance Armstrong.
