FWCS Moves Forward With Family & Community Engagement Center

The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees approved a $1.9 million construction bid from Fetters Construction to prepare the Family & Community Engagement Center for use by June 2016.

The new center is opening in the current FWCS Career Academy Construction Trades building on Douglas Street. Construction Trades is moving to its new location on Murray Street in January.

The construction will transform the Douglas Street building to a facility that will provide parents a welcoming center where they can easily enroll their children and find resources that will allow students to be most successful academically.

“The new Family & Community Engagement Center will be a one-stop shop for enrolling students in one of the many quality educational options at Fort Wayne Community Schools,” Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said. “We want to make it as convenient as possible to enroll and to provide personalized planning and support so that new students are ready for our academic programs.”

Included in the new Center will be Student and Family Support Services; K-12 College and Career Ready Support; Community Programs, which includes the Study Connection tutoring program; and Culturally Responsive Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (CR-PBIS).There also will be a Health Clinic onsite that will provide new enrollees with screenings for vision, hearing, cognitive and developmental deficits prior to school entry.
