AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Seeks Volunteers For Free Tax Assistance Program

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers in Adams, Allen, DeKalb, LaGrange, Wells and Whitley counties to help Indiana taxpayers seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2015 tax returns.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers receive free tax training and help taxpayers at libraries, senior centers and other convenient locations, learning new skills while giving back to their communities. They are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses and volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or retiree to participate.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has grown tremendously since its inaugural team of just four volunteers in 1968. In 2015, 35,000 compassionate volunteers at over 5,000 sites provided 2.6 million people with free tax help. Taxpayers who used AARP Foundation Tax-Aide received $1.3 billion in income tax refunds and more than $257 million in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITCs). Last year, more than 50 local Tax-Aide volunteers helped over 5,100 taxpayers file their federal and state tax returns.
