Local Scouts Collect Thousands Of Shoes To Fight Against Poverty

For the 1st time Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana Michiana and Anthony Wayne Area Council of Boy Scouts of America have partnered together to collect several thousand pairs of shoes to help Soles4Souls in the fight against global poverty.

The shoes that the scouts collected will be sorted, zip-tied, and loaded into a box truck and will be delivered to Soles4Souls, an international anti-poverty organization that monetizes used shoes and clothing to create sustainable jobs and fund direct relief efforts, on Monday, November 2, at 4:30pm, at the Girl Scouts’ Leadership & Learning Center, 10008 Dupont Circle Drive East, in Fort Wayne, just behind Dupont Hospital.

The Scouts, which launched a drive to collect 10,000 pairs of shoes on October 5, are supporting Soles4Souls because “it is the definition of a social enterprise where solid business practices are used to create positive change in people’s lives,” said John Gliot, Executive Director for the Anthony Wayne Boy Scouts. Scouting is a strong supporter of Soles4Souls’ anti-poverty mission, and we hope to take a big step in providing the organization with the used shoes they require to keep making a difference for people in need.”
