Active Aging Week Celebrated At Parks & Recreation Facilities

To celebrate Active Aging Week, the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering free activities and information booths to promote the benefit of leading an active and engaged lifestyle at age 50 and older.

McMillen Park Community Center will host a free Senior Meet & Greet on Wednesday, September 30, 10 am – Noon. Some of the highlights of the event include: facility tours, a pickleball demonstration, free flu shots provided by Walgreens, a Walgreens pharmacist will also be on hand to answer questions about medications, the Fort Wayne Fire Department will offer free blood pressure screenings and allow patrons to sign up for free smoke detectors. Light refreshments will also be served.

The Community Center downtown will offer free Active Aging Week tournaments at several locations. Participants must be 50 years or older, may enter as many tournaments as they’d like, but are required to sign up at least two days before the tournament. Call 260-427-6460 to register.

Active Aging Week, organized by the International Council on Active Aging®, is a weeklong observance that celebrates adults ages 50 and older as fully participating members of society and promotes the benefits of leading an active and engaged lifestyle. It also highlights the ability of older adults to live well, regardless of age or health conditions.
