YWCA Northeast Indiana Kicks Off Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

The public is invited to join YWCA Northeast Indiana throughout the month of October as we raise awareness about Domestic Violence.

Thursday, October 1st at 5pm, YWCA Northeast Indiana invites the public to join us as we launch Domestic Violence Awareness Month with our annual Flowers on the River event. Flowers on the River honors those whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. The event will begin at 1610 Spy Run Avenue, YWCA Northeast Indiana’s administrative offices, in Fort Wayne. There will be a short ceremony that will be attended by city and county officials, and a Mayoral Proclamation will be read from Mayor Henry’s office, followed by a walk to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge where flowers will be thrown off of the bridge and into the St. Mary’s River in honor of each person we have served this past year. Since the program began, over 5,000 flowers have been placed on the river, symbolizing the new journeys our clients and their children embark upon.

Friday, October 2nd from 11am-1pm YWCA Northeast Indiana will be chalking it up to awareness at Freimann Square! Help us turn the square into a giant chalk billboard featuring drawings, facts, and quotes that bring awareness to the issue of Domestic Violence. Stop by anytime between 11am-1pm to show your support and raise awareness about domestic violence!

To RSVP for either of these events please contact Sue Hiatt at YWCA, or 260-424-4908 ext. 254.
