The University of Saint Francis will open the arts season with “2015 President’s Gala – Atelier: Academic and Classical Tradition” on Saturday, September 19, 6-9 p.m., in the Weatherhead and Goldfish galleries of the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center, Leesburg Road.

The President’s Gala is free to the public and will feature food, beverages and live music as visitors enjoy paintings, drawings and sculpture by six leading artists who follow the academic and classical traditions of still-life, portraiture and trompe l’oeil.

Artists David Jamieson, Melinda Whitmore, Anthony Adcock and Anna Wakitsch, whose works will be displayed in the Weatherhead Gallery, are instructors with the Vitruvian Fine Art Studio in Chicago. Art by Mary Borgman, who is represented by Ann Nathan Gallery, Chicago, will be featured in the Goldfish Gallery. Her large-scale portraits were recently exhibited at The Smithsonian Institute’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

The Artist Spotlight Gallery will display still-life paintings and drawings by David Carpenter, who holds an M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art (2008) and a B.A. from the University of Saint Francis (2006).

The exhibit, sponsored by Old National Bank, will continue through October 18.
