The Allen County Chapter 187 of AARP will hold its monthly free educational presentation on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Foundation, 555 East Wayne Street, Fort Wayne (corner of Wayne and Monroe).

Linda Dunno, AARP District 3 Representative, will present on the Indiana Complete Streets Coalition. The goal of this coalition is to encourage the design and operation of streets that enable safe access for all users; pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities so they can safely move along and across a complete street.

In neighborhoods across the country, residents and community leaders are increasingly looking to their transportation departments for more than streets designed for just automobile traffic. They are asking for streets that are safer for people walking and bicycling, better fit the local neighborhood, reflect resident cultures, and make visiting local shops and restaurants more attractive. Linda will detail some of the background of this project and supply examples of how the enactment of Complete Streets could benefit our community members, especially seniors and those with restricted mobility.
