Pokagon To Hold 28th Annual Star Gaze Spectacular

Gaze at the moon, stars and other cosmic features through large telescopes at Pokagon State Park’s Star Gaze Spectacular on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Activities run from 8 p.m. to early Sunday morning and will be presented by park interpretive services staff, the Astronomical Society of Hillsdale County and other local astronomers.

From 8 to 9:30 p.m., visitors can look at astronomy equipment and learn how telescopes work.

From 9:30 p.m. to midnight, visitors can view stars, the moon, star clusters, nebulae and other cosmic features while listening to sky stories. There will be a short presentation around 10:15 p.m. pointing out constellations. Organizers will share legends and lore of the night sky.

All activities are on the lawn at the CCC Shelter. Viewers may come at any time and stay as long as they wish.

Pants, mosquito repellent, lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. Viewers are also encouraged to bring binoculars.

In case of clouds, call the nature center before 4 p.m. at (260) 833-2012 or the Potawatomi Inn after 4 p.m. at (260) 833-1077 to inquire about the program status.
