Learn about the “boys who built Pokagon” during the 62nd annual Civilian Conservation Corps, Company 556, open house and reunion on July 26 at the park’s nature center.
The event honors the work of the CCC from 1934-1942, when young men helped build the park’s facilities and infrastructure. The park is 90 years old this year.
From 9 to 11:30 a.m., visitors can view photo albums from the park’s early years, see CCC memorabilia, meet with any CCC veterans in attendance and hear their stories.
A welcome and introduction to the day’s celebration will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by an introduction of the CCC veterans in attendance at 10:45 a.m.
At 11:15 a.m., a slideshow presentation, “Images from the CCC Days,” will be offered, followed by a walk through the area where the CCC camp stood.
Events are free and open to all.
The standard park entrance fee of $7 per in-state vehicles or $9 per out-of-state vehicle applies.
