Then in the eighth, Reyes robbed Kay of a hit when he made a catch diving forward.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Despite a handful of highlight reel plays from TinCaps outfielder Franmil Reyes on Tuesday, Fort Wayne lost to the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 7-2, at Parkview Field on Tuesday night.

Reyes hammered three hits — two against Hot Rods starter Chris Pike (W, 7-2) and one more in the ninth inning off of Damion Carroll — but that wasn’t all. In the top of the third inning, Reyes threw out Bowling Green left fielder Hunter Lockwood at home plate attempting to tag and score after a fly out. Later, in the eighth, the 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic made a sprawling catch in right field to rob a base hit away from Grant Kay.

The visitors jumped on the board in the first inning when Justin Williams doubled in a run off of TinCaps starter Dinelson Lamet (L, 2-5).

Fort Wayne (3-3, 35-39) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Michael Gettys and Ruddy Giron opened with back-to-back doubles. Then it was Nick Torres who drove in a run to put his team in front, 2-1.

Bowling Green (3-3, 40-36) tied the game in the third after a Nick Ciuffo run-scoring double. The Hot Rods added three more in the fifth, and one apiece in the eighth and ninth innings.

The loss snapped the TinCaps’ seven-game home win streak, but they can win the series against the Hot Rods on Wednesday afternoon. The probable starters feature Michael Kelly (3-1, 4.34) for Fort Wayne and Enderson Franco (5-5, 3.19) for Bowling Green.
