TinCaps Game Notes: 6/10/15 vs. Kane County (Game 58)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (24-33) vs. Kane County Cougars (30-28)

RHP Dinelson Lamet (1-3, 4.76) vs. RHP Brad Keller (2-6, 2.60)

Wednesday, June 10, 2015 — Parkview Field — First Pitch 7:05 p.m. — Game 58

ABOUT LAST GAME: The TinCaps nearly rallied in the ninth inning for a second straight night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, before falling, 4-3. Down two runs, Fort Wayne scored with two outs in the top of the ninth when Felipe Blanco drove in Chase Jensen. But the next batter, Ruddy Giron, struck out to end the game. Giron homered for the sixth time in just his 23rd game this season.

AWAY FROM HOME: The TinCaps return to Parkview Field with a 3-3 record from their six-game road trip to Beloit and Wisconsin.

RUDDY’S ROCKETS: Ruddy Giron launched another home run on Monday in Wisconsin, his 6th of the season. He is one of just 17 players in the Midwest League with six or more long balls. But he has accomplished that feat in the shortest amount of time by far. Giron has all six dingers in just 23 games. That’s the highest home run ratio in the league (amongst hitters that have appeared in more than 10 games). Giron hits one out every 15 at-bats.
TRAE SANTOS AT THE TOP: Trae Santos has been on a tear at the plate lately. Over the last two and a half weeks (his last 18 games), Santos is hitting .351 with six doubles, two home runs, and 10 RBIs. His On-Base Percentage is at a scintillating .439 (more than 100 points higher than his season average). He’s tied for third in the Midwest League with 24 extra-base hits, and will battle Kane County’s Stryker Trahan the next three nights, who’s tied for first in the league with 25 extra-base hits.

PADRES DRAFT: Wednesday features rounds 11-40 of the MLB First Year Player Draft. In the 12th round, San Diego selected Peter Van Gansen, Nick Torres’ teammate at Cal Poly in 2013 and 2014.

THE OTHER GUYS: Kane County’s roster features four of the Diamondbacks top 30 prospects according to MLB.com. RHP Touki Toussain (4), catcher Stryker Trahan (16), outfielder Victor Reyes (27) and RHP Brent Jones.
