Friends, our "Battle of the Bishops" for the SAC TOURNAMENT Saturday May 23rd at beautiful Brookwood Golf Club in Waynedale didn’t sound like it would be much of a battle, at all. Certainly not after our 9-hole regular season battle a week earlier between the only 2 teams with perfect 7-0 SAC conference records. Bishop Dwenger shot a strong 148 to our 170 at Coyote Creek, a 22 stroke demolition. All 5 Dwenger golfers shot in the 30’s. We had just one.
But that was not indicative of how well we had been playing recently! Shortly after that round, our Luers guys played a 3-way match with Central Noble and Garrett High Schools. We shot our best round of the season at Brookwood that night, scoring 150. We had 4 guys shoot in the 30’s, led by Junior Ben Reuille’s even par 36! Number one golfer, Senior Conner Nix fired 37, Sophmore Will Pape shot 38 and Senior Caleb Kroft had 39. I felt that this round was just what the shot-doctor ordered! Lots of renewed confidence! But would that really help against a multi-talented group like those Dwenger kids? They have 10 guys on that team that could compete….and probably beat most good teams around the state with their second five (JV players)! But the tournaments only allow 5 players to play, and 4 scores to be counted.
Flash forward to Satrurday. I wasn’t too concerned with Dwenger. They are way above us! There’s no defense in golf anyway. I just wanted our golfers to play well! Don’t worry about your opponents. "Just control what you CAN control
