ABOUT LAST GAME: The TinCaps won the finale of their three-game series at South Bend, 6-3. The game was scoreless for six innings before Fort Wayne broke through with three in the seventh, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth. South Bend responded with a two-run seventh and also one in the ninth.
FORMER TINCAP CALLED UP TO PADRES: Austin Hedges, who was Fort Wayne’s catcher in 2012, was called up to the Padres from Triple-A El Paso on Monday. The 22-year-old was batting .324 with 2 HR and 15 RBI in 21 games with the Chihuahuas. Back in 2012, Hedges was a Midwest League All-Star as he hit .279 with 10 HR and 56 RBI in 96 games. He’s regarded as one of the best young catchers in the game defensively. For 2014 and the second half of 2013, his hitting coach at Double-A San Antonio was current TinCaps manager Francisco Morales. Hedges is now the 133rd former Fort Wayne Wizard or TinCap to reach the big leagues.
