The City of Fort Wayne Greenways Department is once again sponsoring the popular community bike rides, Trek the Trails. On Tuesday May 5, 2015, the first ride of season six will kick-off at Rockhill Park.
Mayor Tom Henry started the rides as a way for residents to explore parts of the trail that they may not be familiar with and to create social opportunities for families and friends to venture in a guided tour. The free, guided bike rides have attracted nearly 8,000 riders, since it started in 2010 — with 1,647 participating last year.
This year there are 23 Tuesday rides that average 8 miles and four Saturday rides that increase each month from 14-18 miles in length. The Saturday rides are once a month beginning in June and are designed for more experienced riders.
Trek the Trails will take bicyclists through all parts of the community – along the Rivergreenway, the Wabash & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, the Aboite Trails, and to New Haven’s Moser Park. Adults should accompany children and all riders are encouraged to wear helmets.
