New Dental Practice in Bluffton

A Fort Wayne dentist who has worked in the dental field for 30 years, seven of them locally, is opening her own family dental practice in Bluffton. The new dental facility, which was constructed by Prough Builders at 2155 Commerce Drive, features state-of-the-art equipment offering the latest in dental technology.

The new practice was named Mercy Seat Dentistry to reflect the patient philosophy of the owner, Nkechi A. Wan, DDS, “to deliver care in a humane, friendly and comfortable environment with the goal of a lifetime of oral health for all patients.” A ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned for Friday, April 24, at 9 a.m. by the Wells County of Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with various Bluffton community officials to celebrate the official opening of the new business.

Mercy Seat Dentistry will offer affordable, patient-centered dentistry focusing on “excellent demonstration of dental, patient management, and communication skills,” according to Dr. Wan. She completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in June 2008 at the University of the Pacific’s Arthur Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, Calif. She previously had achieved a bachelor’s degree in dental surgery in 1985 from the University of Ibadan.

In addition to all aspects of general dentistry, Dr. Wan is certified to offer sedation dentistry (including the use of nitrous oxide), orthodontics using Invisalign and Orthotain appliances for straightening teeth without braces, and the laser tool Diagnodent for cavity detection and treatment. Mercy Seat will also offer oral surgery and tooth extraction, along with endodontics, implantology and restoration of implant-supported crowns and dentures. Fixed and removable prosthodontic offerings will include crowns, bridges, dentures and partials. Operative dentistry, including placement of composite restorations, and periodontics for the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal health and disease, are two other offerings of the firm.
When in full operation, Dr. Wan will be assisted by three dental hygienists, three dental assistants, and three front-desk personnel. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with emergency appointments available outside of office hours.

Dr. Wan is a member of the American Dental Association, the Indiana Dental Association, and the Isaac Knapp Dental Society. She also is a client of the Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center (NE-ISBDC), where she and her husband are receiving assistance with marketing strategies for the new practice. Dr. Wan is married to Pastor Rotimi Wan, affiliated with Adonai Bible Centers, whom she describes as “her awesome husband of 29 years,” and says she has two “great” sons, Kayode and Lami.
