HUNTINGTON, In – The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter will host a free two-part program on “Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers: Late-Stage” with part one on Monday, Dec. 9 and part two on Monday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. The program will be held at the Huntington Public Library, located at 255 W. Park Drive in Huntington. There is no fee to attend the session, but registration is requested by contacting the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 800.272.3900.
Attendees of “Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers: Late-Stage” will learn the concept of self in the late-stage of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Caregivers will also learn effective ways to communicate with individuals with the disease and how to provide daily care. The program will also cover late-stage care options and explain how to access and evaluate them.
Today, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, including 120,000 Hoosiers. Alzheimer’s disease is the nation’s sixth leading cause of death. The direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias amount to more than $200 billion annually.
