Area A No Longer Part Of Minnehaha Fish & Wildlife Area

Effective immediately, “Area A” at Minnehaha Fish & Wildlife Area will no longer be part of the property and as a result will be off limits to public use.

All land at Minnehaha is leased from Peabody Energy, which is conducting an extensive wetland mitigation project on Area A. The DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife and Peabody agreed to remove Area A from the lease agreement out of safety concerns.

Area A was a 1,050-acre tract of bottomland forest, marsh and lakes on the FWA’s southwest corner and a popular spot for hunters, anglers and trappers.

Property manager Brad Feaster said the change is likely permanent and that currently there are no plans for Area A to become part of Minnehaha again after Peabody completes work.

The remaining nearly 5,000 acres of Minnehaha remain open as usual.

Minnehaha is located two miles east of Sullivan on State Road 54 and managed by Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area.
