Dessie Sturgeon will celebrate her 100th birthday Friday during a party at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Centre, where she has lived the past two years.
The party will start at 2 p.m. at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Centre, located at 600 Washington Street. Her family, other residents and staff will help her celebrate. MEDIA IS INVITED TO CAPTURE THIS EVENT AND SHARE IT WITH READERS AND VIEWERS.
Mrs. Sturgeon was born Nov. 1, 1913 on the family farm in Adams County. She graduated from Monroe High School in Decatur in 1931. After graduation, she went to work for the creamery in Adams County.
She married Lawrence Woolpert in 1933 and the couple had three children, Don, Dick and Ruthann. She stayed at home and raised her children. After her first husband passed, she married Tom Sturgeon. They were married for 62 years before he passed.
Mrs. Sturgeon has seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She said her children and family are her blessing.
