Excise Officers Arrest 19 in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana State Excise Police officers arrested 19 people in Fort Wayne this weekend.

On Friday, excise officers arrested 18 people, including 15 for illegal consumption of alcohol. One minor was also arrested for being in a tavern. Two adults were arrested for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Most of Friday’s arrests came after officers received a loud-party complaint in the 5300 block of Ashland. Once there, officers arrested 14 minors for illegal consumption of alcohol.

On Saturday, excise officers arrested one minor for illegal possession of alcohol and one adult for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

As the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, the primary mission of the Indiana State Excise Police is to promote public safety by enforcing Indiana’s Alcoholic Beverage Code. While excise officers have the authority to enforce any state law, they focus primarily on alcohol, tobacco and related laws.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
