Ultrazone is bringing a new way to see the city, guided Segway tours. This new attraction is Tour Fort Wayne. Pat O¹Connor , president states ³Segways are defined as Electronic personal assistive mobility device² by law, but we call it a fun new way to see our community. Segway guided tours are a growing attraction offered in most major cities, providing an attraction to both visitors and the community. Ultrazone has been a longtime local business and want to show off the best and some of the most beautiful aspects of our city- historic architecture, city scapes and local parks and river ways.
Using established walk ways and trails, groups of up to 8 people assisted by two tour guides will meet at designated starting spots. Every tour starts with at least a 15 minute instruction and operation training to get comfortable with the device. Most often, the customers have mastered the device in 5 minutes. The group is then led by the tour guide, highlighting the points of history, architecture and natural sites of our community. Assisting the tour is a trailing guide. When traveling, the groups go in single file to allow room for pedestrian traffic, strollers and bicycles. The Segway are set for a maximum of 6 miles an hour to provide a safe environment with pedestrians.
The initial tours will be held downtown, and would include park owned space like Freimann Square, Parkview Field, Lawton and the Historic Fort Wayne, Headwaters Park and River Greenway trails. Future tours may be offered throughout the city, trails and neighborhoods for special events. Segways have been popular with all adults, especially with those with limited mobility due to health issues.
